Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen

Tap @ YNWA. Pours very thick deep brown with a great yellow-ish creamy head. Aroma is just as terible as the Urbock - lots of sausage, charcoal, barbecue. Very nice creaminess, but I still don’t like this shite... Sticky, meaty, smoky (well... doh!)... yuk!

This unusual beer is excellent for grilling, and nearly as good for drinking. It takes a few sips to become fully acquainted with this beer, but it quickly grows on you.

0.5l bottle. Pours a very thick, dark golden brown colour. Almost no head. Very strong smoke aroma, reminds me of pepperoni sticks. Tastes like pepperoni too. Nice faint malt flavour. Very smooth with a medium body. The finish was rather bitter and left me not wanting another.

50cl bottle from systembolaget. Holy shit! smoke and more smoke as soon as you start pouring, and then a nice caramel malt underneath that a little bit on. Nice clear brown color with a small tan head. I’ve never encountered this before, and was a little shocked at the first sip, but halfway in, the smoke gave way to a very pleasing maltiness that is very well balanced. The combo of malt and smoke and wood is so different, yet beautiful. The body is medium and smooth and goes down perfectly. I dont think I could drink this every day, but it is an amazing beer in its own unique way.

Like it’s brother the Urbock, this beer screams smoke from the top of its lungs. It’s incredible to smell, and while it might be a bit much for some people it head dead center for me. Truly, a rauchbier for rauchbier lovers. The bottle alone reminds you of some dark cool evening walking thru the German town of Bamberg, soaking in all the goodness that is there. The beer pours out a medium brown color, one finger thick off-white foamy head, which had some staying power. Held up to the light, you could see some garnet and a touch of brown. Aroma is smoke. Pure and simple. Campfire smoke, meat smoking over s grill, burning paper. Mouthfeel is creamy and smoooth. Flavor is more smoke, but its not overly done. Just right. Reminds me of a very well done smoked black forrest ham. Underneath it all are some sweet malts which really binds it all together and makes this beer really a treat to have. Outstanding beer.

strong smoked aroma that can only be described as campfire in a glass. pours deep copper with dark beige foam. crisp flavour and perfect amount of roasted malts. great as a singular evening beer but definately can be drank in numbers.

Smoked, burnt and malty sweet aroma. Hints of chocolate. Bread and campfire smoke. Grainy. Meaty - sausages. Copper coloured. Average head. Malty full palate with roasty dry and smoky finish that lasts.
