| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2009 Bottle. Poured a dark coppery brown with a fluffy tan head and lotsa lacing. Nose is smoky and malty and has a distinctive smell of smoked bacon. This is the first rauchbier I have tried so I wasn’t too sure what to expect and while I was surprised by the aroma it was a pleasant surprise. Flavour is still smoky but not so meaty, malt blends harmoniously with notes of caramel, tobacco and spice. The smokiness is just about perfect, present but not overpowering. A really good beer, I have just been converted. Oscbert (537), Sacramento, California, USA

~Pours a dark brown with creamy tan head. Nice lacing
~Scent of smoked ham and malts, and woodsy tobacco.
~Smoked malty wood flavor. Malts are toasty. Malts and smoke compliment each other. Neither is very aggressive. Light hops.
~Light bodied, very smooth. Smokey sweet malt finish.
~This is a damn good brew. Wasn’t real sure what to expect. It could stand to be a bit thicker. I bet this is excellent straight from the cask. I love the smoked malt and wood flavor. I wish it had a bit more ooompf, but then it might be overkill. Excellent brew. Glad It is easy to find around here. Right on the mark for its style. This is a mans brew that should be eaten with red meat!

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 12, 2009 A must try. As for the age-old saying "smells like a campfire and tastes like bacon," this is pretty dead on. The marzen aspect gives it a nice sweet malty quality too and overall it kind of reminds me of smoked ribs/pork. Yummy!
