Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen

Pours dark brown with large light beige mostly lasting head. Smoked meat in nose, not in a direct bad way though, it rather makes it a bit interesting to take a sip. Clean smokiness dominates flavor. Nice bitter aftertaste. The beer is interesting at first but after a while all I think of is bacon beer.

0.5L bottle, small stable off white head, clear deep brown colour which looks like it is a little opque. aroma of smoked dried meat (bilantong?) and charred wood with hints of vanila and vinous aroma. Flavours of bacon and caramel with charred wood like bitterness, lingering smokey and fruity aftertaste. Intrguing beer.

Much like it’s big brother Urbock, but lighter in every way, and with a very slight metallic flavor. Nicely balanced, but not quite there.

0,5 litre bottle at the Pembury Tavern, on 5th June 2009. Pours deep brown with a thick,off white head. The charcoaly smokiness is intense and instantaneous both of aroma and flavour. As the previous reviewer states, there is a hint of smoked meat (I get sausage) which I absolutely adore in a rauchbier. Also an underlying bitterness adds depth of flavour. Sip and savour slowly and enjoy the long, smoky/grassy finish. Absolutely exquisite.

my first smoked beer! i really didnt know what to make of it when i first tried it but the word bacon came to mind. i really warmed up to it since and i like it a lot! a bit expensive but worth it.

Extremely smoky aroma... Like smoked sausage... Deep mahogany red to brown in color... Flavor is like the aroma, very smoky in character but more subtle than you would expect from the aroma... Very tasty beer..
