Nice smokiness balances malty sweetness to some extent. Lacks carbonation, it would have made it better. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

I like the bacon taste but this one seemed a bit thinner in body than the others. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/20 | May 4, 2003 This brew poured a quick dissolving head and virtually left no lacing on the sides of my mug. It has a strong smoky aroma. It left an aftertaste. It poured a dark amber color. I just couldn't acquire a taste for this style of brew. The taste was just too smoky for me. Nose is very smoky and meaty. Dark malts, burning wood, smoldering earth, and a smoked sausage hint. The burnt wood seems to stand out more that I recall. Taste is smoky malts, burnt wood, lighter notes of smoked meat, light spices and hints of smoked cheese. The body is medium with moderate carbonation and a lingering smokiness. Finmish is light smoked meats and cheese with dark malts, light sweetness, and smoldering wood. Much better than I recall. Perhaps, originally, I wasn’t ready for it. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2002 More like an ale than I was expecting. The aroma is like smoked ham but the flavour is fairly hoppy. The worst bit about the beer is the time it takes to get use to its smokey nature, but this grows on you. Better overall than I was expecting. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2004 Pours like a bourbon and coke - dark brown - with a thin trailing off white head. Aroma is like a bottle of beef jerky - if there is such a thing. Flavor has the same smoky, chewy elements to it - taste like chewing on a hunk of smoked ham. Decent, thick mouthfeel. No other flavor realy comes through - smoke is dominating. Its an acquired taste and one I am slowly learning to like. Not an everyday beer - would be good in the winter. ogivlado (3095), Zagreb, Croatia

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2007 500 mL bottle. Poured a dark orange-brown color. Head was light tan. Aroma was of burnt firewood and smoked bacon. Smelled like a BBQ pit in a bottle. Slightly sweet with lots of smoke flavor accented by a hint of malty caramel and molasses in the background. Very meaty/bacony. An acquired taste to be sure.
