Dark brown color, big beige head. Aroma reminds me of smoked meat even some bacon, smoke comes up strongly. Flavor not so big surprise after aroma. Strong smoked bacon and meat, aftertaste lasts long. Flavor is not so strong than in Urbock, also this has thinner body. Still nice brew, rating changed "slightly", first time with this marzen was my about 10th rating... Previous rating 6-3-5-2-9.

Brown color. Aroma of bacon, salami. Smoked definitely. Tastes like bacon, but very smooth. Bit dry palate. Nice to have tried one, but i’ll probably stick to one, that’s enough of this kind of beers.

Hard for me to rate these types of beer since I really cannot drink more than a sip. Hints of smoked fish, ham and bacon on the nose and in the flavor. Too much to drink. Maybe it would be grea to cook wtih?

Treat shared with Tipsy. Dark copper. Light head of tight bubbles. Beef jerky aroma makes you hungry, Flavour is light jerky. Interesting airy light body. Loses interest the more you have. A novelty beer for me.

Wooden cask (gravity), at the Schlenkerla. Deep ruby red brown, excelent lasting creamy white head and gentle condition. Incredible sweet smokiness in the nose with some toffee sweetness to balance it out a little, sweet in the mouth but with a touch of woody dryness developing and again plenty of smokiness. Long lingering sweet malty smoke in the finish. Also sampled at the Schlenkerla outlet in Nuremberg, from a keg. If anything the different serving method seemed to accentuate the aroma and flavour of smoke.

Bottle. Definitely gives the drinker what it says. Strong smoked ham aroma, dark brown color, and a strong smoky flavor (reminiscent of hickory smoke or liquid smoke (tm).

Medium finely laced head topping a dark wine-red clear body. Aroma is mostly smoke, like smoked sausage minus the sausage. Some malts as well. Taste is sweet malts quickly overpowered by the smokiness, the fading into a smoky smooth bitterness. Aroma is smokier than the taste. Somehow the smoke makes it feel silkily smooth. Taste settles in the mouth as you drink. A very interesting beer; so interesting, in fact, that drinking it in greater quantities requires some practice. It is more than worth the effort, though. (0.5l bottle. Rerated.)

In the 5L mini-keg. A graduate student from Germany in the lab brought me a keg of this back from her recent visit home. Wow! That’s some serious smoke. Black in color, white head. Body a little light to balance the peat, but then again, it would have to be solid in texture to do that. I suggest you try this when the opportunity arises.
