Very, very dark brown and ruby. Pale and large bubbly, nice lacing. Beautiful aroma of smoke, bratwurst, tar and burnt wood. Taste of smoked sausage and tar-pastilles in malty body. Long smokey finish. Delicate beer but one bootle per eve is just enough.

Dark brown color with some red in the color. Very little carbonation. The smoke aroma is powerful and smells very good. Flavor is smoked of course, but there is some roasting beef and bacon specifically. Full flavored and full bodied with a medium palate. The epitome of smoked beers, and I am happy I came to like these.

Bottle. Brownish beer with a big beige head. Big smokey aroma. Smoke flavor and malt, but it doesn’t live up to it’s aroma and the lighter body misses slightly. When fresher there’s a nice smoke flavor with a bit of caramel backing

Reddish brown color with a very thin head. Rich and appetizing aroma of smoked malt, very close to smoked ham, so close that everytime I smell it I get more and more hungry ! The flavor gives a rich smoked malt character (again that damn smoked ham haunts me and I’m really hungry ! ) with toffee to balance the smoky with some sweetness. The smoked malt is so dominant that I still feel it in the finish. Very full body, soft carbonation and slightly oily texture. I would love to drink this beer with a Bowmore, which is a very smoky and full bodied scotch. They make me feel the same : happy !

My first 'smoked' beer experience. I expected I wouldn't like this style of beer, however I actually liked the taste. Strong bacon/meat aroma. Dark brown coloured, lasting head. Taste is a bit malty and bacon/meat like. Palate is likewise, moderate bitter.

Mahogany body with a medium beige head. I just drank a bottle of the Marzen and a bottle of the Urbock side-by-side. Smoke-time!!! Although their Urbock is supposed to be the reference for the Smoked genre I thought the Marzen more than held its own. Aroma was campfire smoke for the Marzen and smoked bacon for the Urbock. Smoke intensity in mouth was comparable (very high for both). The Marzen has a lighter body with flavours of roasted malts, candies, light caramel and a surprise lemony twist. The finish was refreshing and even a little tart. The Urbock on the other hand has flavours of creamy malts, thick caramel, molasses with a long and intense finish of molasses. It’s a draw. Overall the Urbock is more intense but because of its heavy side I wouldn’t drink two pints in a row. While with the Marzen after one pint I was craving for more and more. Full of smoke and addictive, makes you wonder what they put in it…

Strong smoked sausage aroma, that might intimidate the first time drinker. Garnet, with a medium toffee head. Smokey, pork hocks flavour, oddly bitter, like burnt almonds. Full bodied, complex. Is there a more unigue beer on the planet?

500ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Nice deep mahogany body under a slowly fading, frothy head with lots of beige bubbles and fragile laceworks. Bacon-like aroma offset by malts and wood. Moderate notes of liquid fried bacon in flavour mixed with quite sweet, roasted grain. Medium mouthfeel. Another bottle would be alright (06.03.2008).
