| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 15, 2002 Strong smoked sausage aroma, that might intimidate the first time drinker. Garnet, with a medium toffee head. Smokey, pork hocks flavour, oddly bitter, like burnt almonds. Full bodied, complex. Is there a more unigue beer on the planet? after4ever (2851), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2006 500. Pours a nearly opaque dirty brownish black. Thin off-white head dozing around on top. Humongous smoky peppery bacon nose. Humongous smoky peppery bacon palate. The body’s medium, low-ish carb, no alcoholo bite, fairly clean finish. A little peppery smoke sticks to the back of your throat. Overall, this is a very clean, drinkable, pleasurable, complex, satisfying beer. But first and foremost ya gotta be in the mood for smoky pepper bacon. If you’re not, keep walking. Ibrew2or3 (2848), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2006 Updated: May 14, 2006Wow, interesting beer. I don’t think I can drink more than 4 or 5 oz a day. The smoke flavor just becomes too much. Poured out clear amber in color with a small khaki head. Aroma is pure smoke. Smells like a small fire is smoldering in my glass. There is just a hint of malt hidden behind the smoke aroma and really no hop presence. Taste is smoky and sweet malts. The smoke flavor seems similar to that of an Oak Cask aged Irish whiskey like Jameson Gold. But instead of the bright fresh wood taste and smell this is more charred wood embers in the flavor. I do taste some hops on the tongue and some bitterness does remain in the aftertaste. But the key player here is the smoke infused malts present throughout the taste profile. No mistake about it, it’s a smoke beer. For me this beer should shine when accompanied with the correct food. It goes OK with sharp cheddar cheese. thebeertourist (2838), Oslo, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Bottle. Nice mahogny colour with a good creamy offwhite head. The smoked meat aroma is also very appetising. Malty sweetness is well balanced by smoked meat flavours. Still ending with a dry mouthfeel. A nice classic. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2006 Big sweet smoke nose. Pours very dark copper with a small white head. Flavor has a nice smoothness to it, sweet smoke flavors develop with a light caramelized malt character. Finish has a light bitterness that cleans the palate. This beer has a lighter body, but enough character that this never feels thin or watery. Very enjoyable. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2002 Phenomenally smoky, but not as much so as the Urbock. A symphony of flavors pour forth from this beer. It’s in-between Urbock and Weizen in terms of smokiness. TaktikMTL (2786), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2005 A worthy beer of my 200th rating-- delicious! Dark red-brown, beige head. Prominant salty woodsmoke aromas. Palate carries this nicely. The smoke is well integrated with the roasted malts, not overbearing at all. Very interesting, and well balanced such that I could drink this all night (usually with such a strong singular flavour component, like smoke or fruit, I get sick of it after a pint, but not here).
