Is this beer?! I get association to a blended smoked mackerel!! My first smoked beer ever and I really don't know if I like it or not!? Pours a clear amber body with a tan head. The aroma is very smoked (the mackerel again...). Flavor is the same, this really is a smoked mackerel, believe me :-) It is not awful, but I'm not sure I will buy it again! downender (2629), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

Aromas of the smokehouse - they reminded me of clothes kept to close to a wood fire. Flavours of smoked meats with some fruity malt in support. The smokiness was in check in this bottle unlike other examples of this beer I have had in the past. A pleasant, occasional experience. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Reddish dark brown body with lots of tiny bubbles throughout and an a long-lasting light brown head. Flavour continues smoked meat, lightly alcoholized. Medium body. Interesting smoked quality. tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Quickly dissipated white head on a deep brown body. Body was thinner than it looked and at first, I thought the taste was a little watery. But as it warmed, I really got a nice malty wood like flavour out of it. It finished rather crisp with a small lingering sort of bite. An incredibly, the smokiness did not dissipate at all as I worked by slowly through the glass. Very good. Pailhead (2603), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Bottle: Huge smoked cheese aroma and little if anything resembling a Marzen. Pours a dark transparent amber with a small off-white head with decent retention. Okay lacing. Flavor is pretty much dominated by smoke as well with some notes of bacon. Light caramel in the far background with some hints of Euro-lager in the finish that lingers slightly into the smokey aftertaste. As it warms, some Marzen characteristics become noticeable, but still very subtle. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2004 Bottle pours a deep clear mahogany, large frothy white head, attractive lacing, with low carbonation. Charred/burnt wood on the nose. Reminds me of smoked salmon. Forwardly smokey, with a very minor malt note. Medium body and mouthfeel. Finish has only a mild smokiness to it. Not bad, definately smooth and clean, but I bet a Porter or Stout would have been better in this style.

Smell: Bacon, though definitely top-quality bacon. You know me, I’m definitely down with the bacon.
Taste: Sweetish, rich dark caramel maltiness prior to the smoked meat flavor hitting hard and fast. There’s some dark fruits present, but, again, you gotta look long and hard past those smoked malts. Thin vein of roastiness and even woody character throughout. Never much in the way of hops or substantial bitterness though. Oh, the ham. Oh, the sweet barbecue flavors. Finishes ultimately smoke with a mouthful of cub scout campfire ashes.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: An enjoyable beer, a smoke-minded treat even, but not one I could down on a daily basis. Such a smokey, bacon-laden flavor and aroma that it might be even more recommended to friends of the Jewish persuasion. Paired well with some chicken pan fried noodles. The driver refused to partake in the beer once he smelled it.
