Dark tawny brown body with a light tan coloured, foamy head. Taste is not as full on as the aroma promises but still the characters come through, along with caramel, oak, and a touch salty. The body is a little bit thin which could is a good thing as it makes it easier to drink. Finish is long and dry. This beer was quite a treat! Cheers! Kinz (2207), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA

Aroma of Little Smokies, you know, those nasty little vienna sausages that have been soaking in liquid smoke for a few years. Flavor matches. Smoke, touch of wood, that is about it. Although it isn’t my bag, I can see how some folks might really flip for the stuff. It is a well made beer, just not my thing. DYCSoccer17 (2192), Davis, California, USA

Smells like the other Schlenkerlas. Transparent amber color with a small quickly dissipating off-white head. Start is thin and a bit grassy, turning quite smoky to finish. Some lingering bitterness is also present in the finish. This is more thin-bodied than the others. willblake (2180), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

As I sit tonight enjoying yet another, I realize that I’ve yet to make any notes about the stuff - a testament to how wrapped up I get in Schlenkerla every time I drink one. I find this beer to be nearly perfect in every way. The appearance is a truly dignified burnt copper looking gold, like some ancient but charred fossil-amber. The head is small, but it lasts throughout the glass. The aromas are magnificent. This beer reminds of my summers in Montana, campfires, forest fires in neighboring valleys, and enjoying smoked and cured meats from last season’s hunt. The flavors are big and roasted and full of more smoke. At the beer rounds out on the palate, a brine emerges and drops of with a resounding bitterness. Yet smoke reigns throughout and there is never a question the intent of this beer. On of my very favorite beers. Amazing. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 28, 2004 Updated: Sep 13, 2006Deep amber body with moderate carbonation. Fragrant wood smoke, bready malts, and soft sweet notes beckon you in. Moderately sweet, toasty malts stand up to the smoke, but are mostly consumed by an ominous, wood-fueled wildfire. Medium tangy acidity helps contain the smoke in select patches. Finish is oaky, smooth and free of cloying malts. but leaves you craving more. A sublime beer, especially near room temperature. This beer occupies my thoughts on a day-to-day basis more than any other. Monthly visits are required.

Give it a try.
