Aroma milder than I remembered, campfire for sure, make some smoked sausage, or the clothes of someone who spent too much time near the fireplace. Flavor less sweet than I expected for a marzen, smoked or not. Actually the palate was somewhat light and only semi-sweet. I would say smooth, not watery, though. Smoke presence clearly predominates. Attractive dark ruby almost purple color, firm creamy head. SSSteve (2071), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 28, 2006 Its been I while since I had this style of smoked beer... and I know why again. I will try to be objective though. Dark tawny reddish brown with a very soapy tan head. Aroma is like barbecue sauce and wood - smell is very thick. Med / full bodied with very little carbonation. Taste is over-the-top smokey, woody and barbecue sauce like. Its been many many years since I’ve eaten red meat, but it tasted meaty. Mouthfeel is smooth. Okay if you are into it, but I will never need another. SHIG (2037), Aviano, Italy

The flavor was smoked malt with hints of bacon. Very weird but pleasant to drink! bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 10, 2007 Bottle. Pours a clear mahogany with a lacy off-white head. Plenty of smoke in the aroma, like bacon. Medium body and active carbonation. A lot of smoke up front, then some caramel. The aftertaste is a not-so-pleasant reminder of smoking, which I gave up years ago. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia

Taste is more sweet, though balanced. Clean malts at the start with a nice smokey bacon finish. Medium feel. Nice stuff. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 15, 2009 bottle at Ft Wayne tasting - Pours dark amber with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is pretty much all smoke. The taste is strongly smoked with a little caramel malt. It’s light to medium bodied and well, it’s interesting though personally I prefer my smoked beers to have a noticeable but not quite so dominating smokiness.
