Red with off white head. Aroma very smoky. Flavor first very smoky, then you almost forget it and like it. Then it’s sweet of smokemalt. Light body, watery, long duration. BillKismet (1944), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 17, 2005 Appearance connotes dark smoke. Decent smoked aroma and definitely a smoky mouthful, yet balanced and not overwhelming. Good for cook-outs. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Deep clear mahogany, very slight head. Nose beatifically smoky, lots of mesquite and woodiness, whiff of caramel sweetness. Yet another in the tradition of drinking liquified meat, smoky and toasty, very nice. A bit thinner in body than the bock or weizen, but still just full of incredible smoke character. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2005 Pour from bottle at Mader’s. Served fairly cold, but warmed quickly. Appearance is a reddish, opulent brown. Small, oily head. Aroma is beef jerky and kielbasa. Taste affirms aroma - it’s unreal how uncanny it is: jerky, smoked malt, wood cask and again with the kielbasa. I think I like this. Nice dissipating - then vanishing - lacing. I’m preferring this to a lot of the dime-a-dozen dunkels because when this finishes (where dime-a-dozen dunkels leave little resonating), this one leaves smoked malt tracts. Very palpable. Grows on you. Man, what a beer, however the burps that follow hours after are far from enjoyable. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

Pours dark brown with a thick white head.
Aroma is smokey and roasted.
Taste seemed to be a lot betetr than the bottled version I have had before.
Malty, smokey, light roasted caramel notes, some dark fruits. Sweet.
Very drinkable once you get used to the taste. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is smoked ham, bacon. and salami. Appearance is dark brown bordering on black. Flavor is of dark malt and a variety of smoked meat. A cookout or a meat lover's pizza in a bottle. I can see people being weirded out by this experience but I think its an excellent beer even better than Stone's Smoked Porter. travita (1921), Frisco, Texas, USA
