An overwhelming smoked aroma makes it difficult to smell anything else. Reminds my a bit of smoked meat or sauces. Quite light, a bit oily and easy drinkable beer actually, but the smell is almost to much. A loooong smoked finish. Definitively a very nice experience. Pour was a nice deep burnt amber with a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was delicious. Sweet malt with the smoke kicking in midway down the throat. After the smoke exits the nostrils there is a sweet malty aftertaste that just doesn’t belong. Average carbonation. Wish the smoke was more up front than just the aftertaste, but all in all a great smoked. Trying the urbock next! thegreenrooster (1852), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Pour is a murky brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is smoky and meaty and reminds me of cooking on a campfire. Flavor is less smoky then the aroma but its still there. It leaves a bacon/roasted ham on the tounge as this goes down. Its different, I’ll give it that but this is not for me. I still gave it a fairly decent score b/c I can tell this prob takes a lot of effort to make and it is as advertised. Now I’m going to have smoke burps for the next 24 hours. lithy (1850), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2009 Pours a clear red-brown with a loose off white pancake batter head. Just liquid bacon grease. There could be nothing better, smoke, over a heavy dark body to support it. Taste is more smoldering campfire smoke, bacon and bbq smoker fumes. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

Pours a deep dark brown with a small reddish brown head. Aromas of liquid smoke, sardines, and firewood. Flavors of chocolate, espresso, and smoke. Nice dry crisp finish. Smokey aftertaste stays with you for awhile. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 27, 2003 Pours a deep brown with small white head. Sharp aroma of smoke. Hrm, flavor of smoked fish. Yeah, this is the first smoked I've had, and I'm not too impressed. I guess if you don't like smoked food, stay away from smoked beers. Dorwart (1831), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 12, 2004 Nice cramy and frothy head. Lasts for a while. Great lacing and light carbonation. Great smokey aroma. Reminds me of the smoked salmon my dad used to make. Little salty in the aroma also. Color is a dark brown mahagony. Strong malt body with a nice smokey flavor. Not overpowering though. Finish is a bit acidic and smokey. Slightly bitter and slightly dry. A good beer that would go great with food. thornecb (1816), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Offwhite micro head with good retention leaves slight lacing as it recedes. Creamy smoked sweetness with a lasting bittered smoke finish.
