Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle on 2008-10-04) Dark brown. Clear, Medium sized quickly disappearing white. Smoky and malty nose. Full bodied palte with medium carbonation. Smoke, malts, sweetness, salty liquorice and bitterness in taste. Smoky and sweet long lasting aftertaste.

Nov 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear mahoghany brown with a small ring off off-white head. Aroma of smoke, smoked ham and smoked sausage. Flavor is more smokey and less meaty. Super tasty though! Just the right amount of smoke. Nice and drinkable. Yum!

Aug 9, 2008 (6/30/08) Gravity at the brewpub in Bamberg. Very deep amber-brown color with a big bubbly beige head. Aroma of smoked sausages, some malty and caramel. Sweet smoky flavor with some sausage, some caramel, bread and a quite bitter and hoppy finish. Medium-bodied with a very rounded mouthfeel.

Oct 4, 2004 Updated: Aug 16, 2007Rerate - I really liked this before so I figure it’s time for another go-around. Pours a beautiful clear dark brown with a reddish hue and a thick, tight off-white head. Aroma is GODLY - roasty smokey hickory ham and beef jerky- very, very prominent. Flavor starts off with dark caramel, a pinch of roastiness then, a ton of smokehaus wood/meat, bread and a hint of pipe tobacco. Pleasant light level of sweetness; very well-balanced. Ends with an earthy/herbal noble hop character and a tinge of pepper. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and perfect lively yet, non-prickly carbonation. Leaves great lacework. Just exploding with flavor AND extremely drinkbable. A masterpiece.

Feb 20, 2008 Draught at Battersea Beer Festival 8 Feb 08. Dark brown colored. A good-looking white creamy head. Smoky aroma. Flavor of liquid bacon. Smoky aftertaste. Some modest bitter finish.

Jun 27, 2004 Dark brown body with reddish glints. Thick, dense and lasting beige head. Unique and robust smokey nose that carries some hints of hickory, Prague ham and spices. Taste is less pronounced than I was expecting. Carbonation is moderate and the notes of ham are quite present, especially in the final. Smoke dominates that wonderful drinking experience from A to Z.

Aug 12, 2004 Bottle: The color is a redish brown with plenty of sediment. Well carbonated with a thin line of head around the edge of the glass. The aroma is enticing. The woody, smoked, char smells all mingle in your nose and remind me of well cooked bacon. It goes down smooth with all the smokey flavor hitting in the aftertaste. Very tasty in small doses. Perhaps a smaller bottle would be a better idea. I imagine this would go exceptionally well with a ham dinner, or even BBQ. Different, but quite enjoyable.

Sep 23, 2008 Pours a deep glowing garnet with a large frothy creamy beige foam. Smoked ham aroma, salty and slightly sweet. Heavy mouthful with sparse but lively carbonation. Sweeter malt taste, lots of wood and smoke, salty, with a unexpected dry and bitter finish. Like pouring sugar on a campfire.
