Body is a little lighter than I would like. First smoked I’ve rated, have to try more. Borresteijn (1419), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Potent smoked bacon aroma with some detectable noble hops. Clear dark garnet under a thin, bubbly off-white. Meaty smoke flavour is strong and in your face at first. Once the palate recalibrates itself there is plenty of sweet base malt flavour as well as a smidgen of noble hops. Moderately salty smoke transcends, though. Medium body, moderate carbonation, moderate bitterness balances the sweetness well. drowland (1410), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 12, 2009 A must try. As for the age-old saying "smells like a campfire and tastes like bacon," this is pretty dead on. The marzen aspect gives it a nice sweet malty quality too and overall it kind of reminds me of smoked ribs/pork. Yummy! Gr0ve (1400), Oslo, Norway
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2007 500 ml botte. Best before date 2004-05. I’ve had this one lying around for while. Dark brown colour with a deep reddish hue. Medium sized mixed off-white head. Grainy and wort-like aroma at first then strong pungent bacon aroma. Well-rounded texture. Seemingly little carbonation. Feels quite bready, much like pumpernickel. Not really sweet, but not particularly dry either. Flavourwise there isn’t much smoke (or bacon if you will) to be detected, but rye instead. Burping makes the room smell of pumpernickel. This is something very special. An acquired taste for sure. I didn’t like it the first time, but this time it wasn’t that bad. I have a fresh bottle in the fridge as well, so I’ll try that one soon to compare. There’s nothing wrong with this vintage, rather the opposite as it is quite rounded and mellow. Also sampled at many beerspeeches. An always true lover. Compared to the Refsvindinge Skibsøl this is a thirstquencher, which I might agree. I can drink it as a thirstkiller, but ½ a liter, hmmmm. Perfect for any smoked food, such as smoked fish, spegepølle (salami), firefood and after a ......marathon
