Also sampled at many beerspeeches. An always true lover. Compared to the Refsvindinge Skibsøl this is a thirstquencher, which I might agree. I can drink it as a thirstkiller, but ½ a liter, hmmmm. Perfect for any smoked food, such as smoked fish, spegepølle (salami), firefood and after a ......marathon tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2008 500ml bottle. Kippered beef. Beef stew. Salted bacon. Morning wet campfire wood, tobacco, wet leather and a touch of caramel sweetness. Pours dark brown with amber highlights. The flavor is not as smoked as the nose would lead me to believe. Salted fish, a hint of bacon, and toasted caramel. Medium bodied with a decent dry finish. brewblackhole (1384), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

It had a smooth mouthfeel, the heavy smoke taste did seem to recede a little. This would be great to eat with jerky or sausage, you appreciate it more with each glass nickd717 (1383), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 17, 2009 Bottle from BevMo in Mountain View. Pours a dark brown color with a small but lasting creamy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is lots of smoke, hickory-smoked bacon, ham, and roast. Reminds me of a BBQ in a good way. Flavor is smoked ham on rye, roasted malt, caramel, some plum and fig, tobacco. Just like a ham sandwich. They really call this a marzen? Palate is smooth with medium body and lingering smoke. A novelty for sure, but overall I like it. Bullit (1382), Glasgow, Scotland
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Dark red colour, small beige head. Aroma of smoked eel and oak wood. Strong flavours of smoked fish as well, going into hoppy and dark malt flavours. Heavy but tasteful. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

Full, intriguing aroma of hickory, charred brown sugar ham, pine smoke. The schlenkerla signature is pure and distinctive. Initial taste of crisp hops and well-mannered smoke. A bit of vinegar, bitter chocolate, and thoroughly blackened roast. Hint of lysol and strange fruitiness. Pristine balance, though. Finishes dirty and dry with a touch of tartness. Smooth and overly mild palate. Lulls a bit at the end. The munich sweetness is fairly marginal, but it’s solid. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 16, 2005 From a bottle. Pours a dark brown. The smell is amazing. Smells a lot like some of the stronger smoked cheeses I have tried. The taste is startling and unique. Very strong smoked meat or cheese flavor on top of a quality brewed lager. I’ve never had anything like this before and I’m extremely interested in trying other smoked beers if they exist.
