Feb 22, 2003 wonderful smoky aroma, reminding me of a bbq pit. dark reddish brown color with virtually no head. smoky tasting but not overwhelmingly so, as the underlying malt and hop character complement it well. Was a bit apprehensive to try this beer, as I didn't think it would be my thing. How wrong I was, a wonderful beer, that I will be revisting soon.

May 20, 2002 Wow! This is one of the most distinct beers I have ever tasted. It’s like tasting the inside of a smoke house! Perhaps great with any type of meat. I’ve had some other smoked beers, but this one the flavor definitely stands out. A nice dark color. Every sip leaves me guessing. I found this to be one of the most interesting beers in a long time.

Sep 17, 2002 A bold, challenging beer. Clear, dark amber colour w/ long-lasting creamy head. Assertive smoked ham aroma. Medium bodied. Rich smoked ham flavour w/ an underlying maltiness. Smooth, dry finish w/ a touch of hop bitterness.

Feb 2, 2007 My favorate of all the Schlenkerla beers I have had. This was an excellent smoked beer with a smooth taste and wonderful appeal. The smokey flavor was evident but not over abundant. Fluffy beigh head with small frothy bubbles covers this dark brownish bock beer. Rich and creamy flavor with a malty undertone. Not overly sweet. Excellent palate with a great finish. I really loved this beer.

Jun 2, 2006 Updated: Oct 29, 2009a totally amazing and unique experience. The aroma is explosive, very burned and smoked. Great looks, dark with a small white head. Taste is also extremely smoked, a whole lot of meat, spices and malt!! Not exactly a session beer, but so wonderful and unique

Nov 25, 2009 Extravagant, german old-style label on the 0.5 l bottle.
Meanwhile pouring, a nice, stiff, beige-coloured, head grows, which remains long.
Colour’s deep brown/mahogany, bubbleing is low-key.
The smell is smoky, mixed with some malty sweetness.
Taste is mild, the flavour is smoky, special, its body is pretty good, too.
Finish is light hoppy, dry and remains long.
A real special one, liked it!
