Nose beatifically smoky, lots of mesquite and woodiness, whiff of caramel sweetness. Yet another in the tradition of drinking liquified meat, smoky and toasty, very nice. A bit thinner in body than the bock or weizen, but still just full of incredible smoke character. jbrus (4895), Delft, Netherlands

Light sweet, light bitter, very much smoked eel flavors as well, soft feeling. This beer is very much WOW. Although very smoked I might even like drinking it all evening. Amazing stuff; very smoky. I’d say smoked mozzarella rather than ham or salmon, but it’s certainly like drinking a regular (but good) marzen while your house is burning down (just a conjecture, I don’t think I’d have a beer under those circumstances.) Worth looking for if you like smoked things. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Hickory, smoky, gouda, and bacon aroma. Hickory and smoked bacon remains in the flavour, with a touch of coffee, a lingering smokiness, and a background sweetness. Dry mouthfeel, with a sort of chewiness different than what you would find in a stout. Very good, balanced flavours, and a smoky touch that's not overpowering. Thanks Josh. Garnet, with a medium toffee head. Smokey, pork hocks flavour, oddly bitter, like burnt almonds. Full bodied, complex. Is there a more unigue beer on the planet? | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 6, 2003 Pours a clear dark brown color with a big, off-white head that lingers. Wow! What an aroma, I can smell the campfire two feet from the glass. The aroma is strongly smokey, but attractive just the same. Medium body with low carbonation, the flavor is all malt with tones of smoke. The finish is long and smoke filled. Drinking this reminds me of roasting pigs on a barbecue or cooking bacon in the microwave. Excellent brew!
