Holy smoke! Not for everyone. Lots of taste - a little bit like smoked ham. Well rounded and pretty heavy.

Mmmmm. Thats’s good, very smokey refreshing beer. Instilled in me an overwhelming desire to have barbecue.

A really nice smoke beer. Definitely old world style quality. The nose is just superb. The flavor is rich yet not overdone. Very smooth finish. Nice lingering smokiness accompanies you as you imbibe this beauty. Wonderful.

Re-rate: I appreciate the style a lot more now. A very strong smoky aroma with a very gentle smooth flavour. I'm glad i've given this one another shot. Original rate: (1.6) This is the first and last rauchbier i have ever tried. It's just not my kind of beer. Tastes like ashes.

Brown color. Aroma of bacon, salami. Smoked definitely. Tastes like bacon, but very smooth. Bit dry palate. Nice to have tried one, but i’ll probably stick to one, that’s enough of this kind of beers.

Wow. I have to agree with an earlier posting regarding this a ’liquid smoke in a bottle’. What a different experience this was. So much so, that I had to go out and get another bottle of it! Very good. Drink this while eating something heavy, like a pot roast or venison. Very good.

This beer (and its sisters) are lovingly made by the Trums of Bamberg. They even malt their own barley, and kiln it over a Bocha (beechwood) fire. If you’re ever in Bamberg, be sure to visit the Schlenkerla Ausschank, where this is served from the Holzfaß (wooden keg). Much more aggressively smoked than their Weizenbier (which is destined to also be a world classic).
