Big smokey bacon aroma, rich malt backdrop. Not one to drink all night, but certainly one to drink. jcalbi (378), New Jersey, USA

Bottled - Some brought me it back from Germany. Dark brown, the large head diminishes quickly. Very smoky aroma. The smoky flavour masks all else - I didn’t think I’d like it, but I did. (3.5/5)
Rerate: 6th July 2004. I much prefer this than I did before. The smokey flavour isn’t sickly, and adds to the entire beer. Oddly refreshing and thirst quenching. (4.3/5). I will put in a total of 4.3 as my tastes have changed, not the beer.

A symphony of flavors pour forth from this beer. It’s in-between Urbock and Weizen in terms of smokiness. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

Aroma is deliciously smokey like a really nice sausage or salami, maybe even salmon. Flavor has the perfect amount of smoke in it with some nice complexities of crystal malt. I don't know about a 5 Oakes, but this beer is pretty damn good. If you really like smoked meat or jerky, you'll like this beer. If not, well, you make your own conclusions. I could drink this for hours on end, it is relaxing and smooth once you really get into this bottle. Kasteelfreak (341), Fallbrook, California, USA

It wasn’t as smokey as I expected. Maybe that’s because I’m in the kitchen grilling lamb chops. The smokiness makes it seem spicy. It is very well balanced. An excellent beer
