This one is more reddish in colour with a deep wood smoke flavour (not salmon-like a la raftman). Malts are prominent in the body. Not as much of a scotch as the Church Key... but it’s there! Not bad in the least! This is a BIG beer... not for the faint of taste or heart. GiBrew (171), Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada

As soon as you open this one, you know you’ll be in for something special....I grew-up in a small fishing village and it reminded me of walking into one of those shacks used to smoke fish...
Pours dark brown (almost black) with a white frothy head. Beef jerky and smoked bacon aroma. Flavours are malty and a bit sweet at first, with a nice lingering Smokey finish(beef jerky, smoked cheese perhaps...) harrisoni (6947), Ashford, Kent, England

I was looking through my ratings last night and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t added this. I think because I knew I had a bottle at home which I would rate. But then I had the one at home and thought, "Oh I don’t need to rate this, as I had it in Liverpool." Fortunately I still have my notes from the Ship & Mitre. Smokey bacon aroma, dark brown beer with beige head. This is good, I mean good. Like a dunkel in mouth with more smokey bacon on end. Stunning. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2007 Updated: Jan 22, 2008500ml bottle. Pours a nice dark redish brown, almost identical to a dark ale. Medium head that clears up fairly quickly but leaves a centimeter or so of froth at the top of the glass, looks fairly heavily carbonated. Smells of smoked malts (obviously), and I’m actually reminded a little of sausages or ham around a campfire, very pleasant! Tastes strongly of the smoked malts, but there’s also some good hops in there too that gives it a good bitter finish. After taste is a blend of everything, hops, malts, and most noticeably the smokey aspects. Pretty enjoyable over-all, definitely worth paying for. estoves2 (98), Sweden

Pours a dark amber to brown body with a one and a half finger ashy head, head is creamy white som bobbles in it. Aroma is smoke and smoked meat. Smokey taste and som last. The smoke is very intense and woody almost like an forestfire. The aftertaste is reminds me of how your clothes smell after you have been at an bonefire. Some bitternes in the aftertaste. Palate is mouthtfilling thick and creamy.
