Tastes of smoke and charred wood, with a cola finish. Much better than the weizen rauchbier. MWS (10), Central, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jan 23, 2008 If you like smoked beer, this is a great smoked beer. Has a small head, strong, smoky aroma. The smokiness is strong but not overpowering, and not sour like some rauchbiers. Smoke is nicely balanced with the malt. Color is a nice deep brown. Palate is nice and full but a touch oily.
This is Shlenkerla’s best beer. Heavier than the Weizen, and lighter than the Urbock. liinis (721), Helsinki, Finland

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 18, 2008 1/2 L bottle from Once Upon a Vine....but definately not my first. Pours a clear dark amber with almost no head. Aroma is straight from the smokehouse along with carmelized malts and some spicey hop aromas buried deep in the smoke. Carmelized malt flavors yeild to smokiness and the hop bitterness fights to catch up from behind. Finish is somewhat dry with a bit of residual hop bitterness and smoke flavors. Wonderful. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Nov 10, 2009 like those little christmas hormel sausage gift packs, body is there, but the smell is so overpowering that it is hard to determine any flavor outside of the smokiness. As compared to the other Aecht smoked rauchbier I’ve had (that being a dunkel), this is lighter and less heavy. Bottle from Total Wine and More, Naples, florida. bvc (298), Kenmore, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2009 500ml bottle capped. Pours a deep dark clear brown with a nice fluffy off white head. Nose is slightly malty sweet and big on smokey bacon and campfire. I have had this one many times and it doesn’t disappoint. It really opens up when it is right around room temp and I could drink a couple of bottles of this without a problem. This is pretty much my benchmark for smoked beers and one of these times I will cook something in this as I am sure it would be amazing. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2008 (Bottle). Intense smoked Italian ham aroma. Color a gorgeous dark reddish brown. Flavor a symphony of smoke, malt, and hops,without undo bitterness until the finish when a slight smoky bitterness emerges. Fantastic stuff. mikalooch (167), , New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 29, 2008 Pours a very dark reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Lots of smoke in the aroma, mixed with caramel and spice. Flavor is sweet at first with a hint of chocolate, then follows with a very nice smoke and dark berry flavor, nothing too intense though. Mouthfeel is thick, but is still drinkable. Very good beer once you get accustomed to it, it kind of grows on you as you drink.
