The nose is ’SMOKIN’ Like Hams from the Hills of Virginia, malt, caramel. Front is sweet, the top medium, the finish is lightly acidic, a tad dry, nicely hopped, and quite pleasant. Some people may be put off by the smokiness of this, to them I’d recommend drinking this beer with some smoked meat or bacon. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2002 Dark reddish brown, decent head formation. Lightly smoked bacon aroma covers over a mild sweet maltiness.
Easy drinking, light to medium bodied. Essentially sweet with a light chocolate at first, turning to a subtely well balanced smokiness. Remains refreshing throughout, finishes slightly dry. I was never really sure if I was a smoked beer fan, but this is excellent. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2001 As was mentioned previously, there’s a definite sense of bacon going on here. I’ve had this before with Scotch where it wasn’t a bad thing, and it wasn’t a bad thing here. The smokiness balances nicely with the malt flavor, and it leaves a very light, smooth aftertaste.
