Deep red...ok head..smells of sweet, smokey bacon. The first sip is like inhaling a campfire...i didnt think i would like it...then as i have heard before on this beer...the smoke takes a back seat and becomes a compliment to the beer...which has a very decent malt palate and a smooth drinkability and finish...damn good beer!

The first time I tasted this VERY smoky beer I hated it. Acouple of years later I tasted it again and thought: ’Hmmm, it wasnt THAT bad’. So I tasted it again and thought: ’HELLO this is GOOD!!’. Now it’s one of my favourites. So folks, it’s never too late to learn to like something.

Wow. Strong aroma of smoke, reminiscent of hickory smoked bacon. Absolutely wonderful in the flavour. Nice bitter finish to take the edge off the smoke. Long lasting finish, slightly salty. Palate thin enough to keep it from being chewey. Highly recomended experience.

Man, I love rauchbier. I have previously had the Ur-Bock and the Weiss, this is the first time I have had the Marzen. I noticed that it got the lowest rating of the three, and I have to agree with this. While this rauchbier is very good, the other two are better. This one is not as complex as the others. It is very smoky, with a bitter smoke finish, but the beer itself is not tasted as much as with the other Schlenkerla offerings. Still, I would take this over almost any beer in the world.

Draught at brewery tap in Bamberg. Nice wonderful dark mahogany color and great smoke aroma. Very strongly smoked beer and also very good. Definitely good with the food and each successive beer tastes even better.

Smell is not very promising: sea water and old pennies. But the taste, body and look are fantastic. Subtle wood smoke and a sweet finish accompany this subtle, full-bodied and smooth bock-like beer. Expertly done.

So this is what a campfire tastes like! :o) The smoke is extremely evident and gives pleasant associations to Laphroaig. I would love to try this with smoked eel or smoked heering!

Reddish black, foamy beige head. Smells like Canadian bacon. Seriously. Really great aroma. Flavors is smokey, as one might expect, but also nice notes of caramel and molasses to balance it out. Crisp, clean palate. Even some hints of coffee as it warms. Thanks, Santa!
