Wonderful aroma, I really love this smoky nose! This beer has some elements of tar in the nose too.. Flavors: Wow! The taste just blew me away! (to much to discribe...) This beer is wonderful! Slightly salty and extremly drinkable. I have just drunk a outstanding beer! I just hope this smoked has a long finish, and sure enough it has! By the way, I really enjoy a good single malt (especially those with a strong peaty, smoky character).. Does this smoked beer have anything in common? Sure, this beer is very different to a peaty single malt, but I think you can compare the smoky character. I really love the smokiness, (whether in whisky or in beer...) this beer proves it! I found a new outstanding beer! I’ m going to buy a lot of these beers as quick as possible! This Schlenkerla was really a wonderful experience! If you loved this beer, I would recommend you to taste some single malts. If you haven’t yet, you should really consider tasting some (especially those from the Island of Islay) ...(for example the Lagavulin 16 years or the Laphroaig 10 years, which are excellent single malt expressions with a strong peatiness). Viel Rauch und leckere malzige Untertöne lassen dieses Märzen herausragen aus einem Meer von Gold-Bieren! Just figure it out! ladnewton (237), London, Greater London, England

Pours deep brown with a thick, off white head. The charcoaly smokiness is intense and instantaneous both of aroma and flavour. As the previous reviewer states, there is a hint of smoked meat (I get sausage) which I absolutely adore in a rauchbier. Also an underlying bitterness adds depth of flavour. Sip and savour slowly and enjoy the long, smoky/grassy finish. Absolutely exquisite. tallboy2 (7), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Wonderfully smoky aroma reminiscent of smoked sausages. Hop aroma and flavors are replaced for the most part by the smoke, which is more than capable of balancing the subtle sweetness of the malt. Great paired with grilled meats, dried meats (like Bresaola), and cheeses (especially smoked or blues). This is a love it or hate it beer--those not familiar with smokebeers may want to begin with the Helles Lagerbier rather than the Marzen, as it provides an entry-level smokiness. I can gladly drink a lot of this beer and get myself in to a mess. Fantastic! Take the dive and try a smoked beer. Enjoy the smokyness but also appreciate that behind it and with it is a fantastic beer,
Lovely. Yum dI5tIL (15), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Have it with some nice salty crackers. Beechwood reek and malt swirl together in perfect crisp harmony. More! DewBrewer (272), Austin, Texas, USA

Thanks to Helmut, Knut & Herman for welcoming us to Bamberg so graciously at the pub. And what a pub it is!! (oops, that’s for another part of the site). Beautiful autumn, brown color with slightly tan head. The aroma is just incredible with bacon and woody smells. The flavor is also nice and smoky with malt, bacon, & very little bitterness detectable. It is very smooth and medium-bodied. It goes down easy! Especially after a 9.5 hour flight and a 2.5 hour train ride through the snow! We have had quite a bit of fun homebrewing with Weyermann rauchmalt but this experience will have us experimenting with it much more. Awesome beer. Dorqui (1361), Brescia, Italy

Color dark brown with red glares, much not veiled and bubbly; much elegant one. Incredible scent and wrapping. Aroma of filled with smoke meat, bacon, burnt wood and scamorza. Full bodied and intense taste. Strong bitter and of long persistence. Astonishing.
