Enjoyed this one at Redbones over lunch to celebrate closing on my first house. I’ve found most rauchbiers to be over-done... just a ton of smoke aroma and way out of balance. This one is the best I’ve tried. Smoky aromas balanced well with sweet maltiness. Mouthfeel was pleasant, not overly slick like many others in this style. Appearance seemed just the slightest bit watery on pour, but was a nice deep brown in the glass. Highly recommended.

Det er altså verdensklasse, den lugter at spejderbål når den bliver hældt op og den smager også sådan, men på den fede måde.

#300 - from City Beer Store in S.F. Poured a rich dark brown in a weizen glass with a nice light tan head. Good lacing too. Smell was very reminiscent of salted and peppered beef jerky and smoked bbq, and although it was very obvious, it wasn’t as extremely overpowering or offensive as I feared. I found it extremely enticing and the taste was not a letdown either. The base of the beer itself was smooth, perfectly malty and sweet with a touch of lingering smokiness and light bitterness in the finish. It was very full flavored, not overdone and perfectly crisp from the carbonation, and I was shocked at how drinkable this stuff was. I expected this to be a letdown b/c I was quite excited to try it, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Very good, and I can’t wait to try the other 2 varieties.

Belin questa m’è piaciuta un bel po’, accompagnata ad un buonissimo tagliere di salumi al Pub del Duca. Mamma mia che serata! :)

I tried this beer on January 28, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto. The beer poured a brownish-black into the glass with minimal head, and an ’oily’ look. The aroma was smoked wood, as well as some roasted malty tones. The mouthfeel was light bodied, almost watery, yet creamy, with little carbonation. The flavour was very much like burnt bacon and burnt coffee.

Excellent composition. I urge for smokey beer once in a while and this one is THE smoke beer of the Universe. Intensely smoked with delicate balance and small amount of sweetness. Great beer!

Bottle. Pours black that turns deep mahogany when held to the light. Moderate tan head leaves spotty lacing. The nose is smoked ham, light bacon and campfire. Taste is smoky charred wood, burnt sweet malt, smoked meat and light roasted coffee in the finish. Medium creamy mouth feel. Very good.

50cl bottle from systembolaget. Holy shit! smoke and more smoke as soon as you start pouring, and then a nice caramel malt underneath that a little bit on. Nice clear brown color with a small tan head. I’ve never encountered this before, and was a little shocked at the first sip, but halfway in, the smoke gave way to a very pleasing maltiness that is very well balanced. The combo of malt and smoke and wood is so different, yet beautiful. The body is medium and smooth and goes down perfectly. I dont think I could drink this every day, but it is an amazing beer in its own unique way.
