Pours a deep ruby-brown color with an inch and a half thick, rock off-white head that receded to a thin layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of sweet brown sugar, honey ham, charred wood, peat, and some earthy leather. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some hints of honey ham leads into a smoky charred wood flavor with some hints of sweet brown sugar and undertones of leather that linger into a moderately dry, smoky finish. Light carbonation and smooth, slick mouth feel. Overall, a rather simple, yet enjoyable smoked beer that gives you everything it advertises. Good stuff.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a creamy beige head. Huge gorgeous campfire smoke. Cleanest most pure smoke I’ve smelled on a beer. Smooth, creamy, and malty with a nice smoke coming through over light caramel. Finishes up with even more gorgeous smoke that lingers around. The smoke in here is amazing. Doesn’t overpower, but it’s always present and infuses all aspects of the beer. planky84 (148), , Greater London, England

Flavours of wood, smoked salmon, raisins, quite fruity. Very well balanced.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Pours an amber brown with a decent sized, quickly fading head. The aroma is dominated by smoked ham bone with sweet undertones. The mouth is sweet, biscuity malt with intense smokiness throughout. Not bad.
This was one of my first experiences with a smoke beer, and I have to say it complimented my steak really well... jimmay (229), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Bottle from LCBO. Pours deep brown in colour, large off white head, which leaves tonnes of lacing. Aroma of smoked salmon, one of the most unique beers I’ve ever had. Flavour is similar, a little more muted that the aroma, but still, like drinking smoked salmon. beerfest5 (200), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Wow, this is such an interesting beer, not just for the smoked taste but because almost immediately you know whether you will enjoy smoked beers or not, just from the first sip of this one. I dunno, can see this going well with german food, especially sausages, bratwurst, knockwurst, etc. I still dont think i could have more than one at a time, but its good, sort of smoked porter taste, just a little heavier. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Pours a deep chestnut brown into the glass, with a generous eggshell-tan head that reduces to a thin cap, leaving medium-soapy lace. The nose is very much of smoked peat, jerk spices, Slim-Jims and bacon. The flavors are reminiscent of their Urbock, with bacon, peat, smoked processed beef sticks, malt, dry-spice pork rub, with lots of smoke to go around. Very nice. The mouthfeel is perfectly medium-round, with well-integrated subtle carbonation, and a nice body with exquisite effervescence (i.e. aftereffects, residual aftertaste, etc.). This is almost as nice as the Urbock, lacking slightly in complexities of the big brother. I just love this take on the Märzen, Urbock and Weizen styles by Brauerel Heller brewers. They are a class act, and produce superb smokebiers. Prost!
