| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Pours a deep chestnut brown into the glass, with a generous eggshell-tan head that reduces to a thin cap, leaving medium-soapy lace. The nose is very much of smoked peat, jerk spices, Slim-Jims and bacon. The flavors are reminiscent of their Urbock, with bacon, peat, smoked processed beef sticks, malt, dry-spice pork rub, with lots of smoke to go around. Very nice. The mouthfeel is perfectly medium-round, with well-integrated subtle carbonation, and a nice body with exquisite effervescence (i.e. aftereffects, residual aftertaste, etc.). This is almost as nice as the Urbock, lacking slightly in complexities of the big brother. I just love this take on the Märzen, Urbock and Weizen styles by Brauerel Heller brewers. They are a class act, and produce superb smokebiers. Prost! PWheatley (39), , Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2009 50cl bottle. Pours dark brown with a minimal tan head. The aroma was very smokey. The taste was like drinking the gravey from a sausage fry up. The palate was full bodied with a very long smokey/meaty finish. Over all not my kind of beer. I will not be trying this style again, but I supose looked at for the style this must be near the top. NPRugby11 (85), New York, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Rich dark beer that smells and tastes of smoked bacon...there is no greater combination of flavors on this planet than bacon and a fine beer. This is the absolute pinnacle of human achievement. brewski519 (419), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Poured an orangish color - white head and decent lacing. Aroma is smoke - on first whiff this smelled like my clothes the morning after a good campfire. I also got quite a scent of meat (smoked bacon). The taste is exactly what I expected - smoked bacon. I actually really liked this Smoked Brew... I’d pick this up again to share with friends. FlssmrBrewAlum (1158), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Draft on tap at the Bavarian Lodge (Lisle, IL). Pours a very dark brown, a bit reddish around the edges, but quite translucent, a decent offwhite head that is cakey, laces light. Aromas are good smoked malts, meaty bacon and ham, a touch of ash and brown sugar, caramel. Very smoked dominant. Initial is fairly light bodied, giving good smoked malts, meaty ham, caramel and a touch of brown sugar. Sticks a light sweetness, smoked sticks moderately to the palate. Not too cloying overall, goes down quite nicely. As a fan of smoked beers, I like this and it is quite drinkable. Light bitterness on the backend, a touch of florals, run over with campfire, ham, and a touch of ash with some light caramel, toffee, and toast, largely bready with a touch of spiciness. I liked this. cfrancis (338), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2009 I tried to base my rating on the quality of the beer when regarded as a smoke beer. But this really isn’t my thing. It was my first and might be my last. Aroma is like a burning log in a fireplace with malt. It pours a rather viscous blackish liquor. Taste is intense smoke flavour with malt. This really isn’t my bag but as a "smoked" beer this pretty much fills the bill. lowgun1212 (84), Montclair, New Jersey, USA
