Pours an opaque dark brown with a very thin white head. Aroma is strong smoked sausage, bacon, and campfire. Flavor is malty up front and fades to smoked meat, charcoal, and liquid smoke. Medium mouthfeel...warm/smoky aftertaste. Its pretty damn good...unlike anything else...its definately worth a try. daniele (1750), Italy

It pours a clear, deep amber color with ruby hightlights and a frothy light tan head. The aroma is slightly sweet and has a large bouquet of smoke like that of smoked cheese rind. The flavor is rich and smoky as well with plenty of chocolate and sweet, caramelized and roasted malts accompanied by burning wood and smoke. Really, the smoke and maltiness of this beer are quite well-balanced. It has a smooth, medium body and is hard to stop drinking. One bottle is not enough! The Urbock is quite good, but the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen is still my favorite of ther rauchbiers!

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Updated: Aug 20, 2009Completely biased due to this being my instant favorite of the last few years. Poured a beautifully smokey ruby color with an off-white head that hung around for the duration of my session. If you’re not careful, the aroma will knock you off your feet. A deeply smokey aroma distinctively reminiscent of deer bologna. Very smokey and pungent in the best possible way. The flavor is singular in the world of beer tasting. Much like your first brettanomyces funk beer, but at the delicious end of the spectrum. It tastes just as it smells, with deeply smoked character blended delightfully with sweet malts. You may think the finish will blister your throat, but nary a cleaner and milder finish have I experienced. A+ Anker (313), Hillerød, Denmark

Aroma is pleasant but very smoked malts and saltpetre, with notes of caramel.
Flavor has a lot of soft smoked notes. Reminding me of homemade smoked lamb salami, and ends up in a long smoky aftertaste. Really delicious!! Gabler (86), , New York, USA

Nose sweeps me into a salty cheese plate and pork campfire dream. Wow! Creamy mouthful of a body. Deep oaky toasty smoked flavor. Just when you think it might be overwhelming, it’s finish is surprisingly, relatively clean. Unique and simply delightful.
