Excellent. Better than Märzen version of Schlenkerla Rauchbier. Pure smoked ham flavour. I would say Rauchbier at best. Great! unclemattie (2424), Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2008 This has the highest ABV of all Schlenkerla brews. I used this one in a marinade for a huge filet of Scottish Atlantic Salmon on Christmas 2008. Very dark reddish brown hue, thick and creamy eggshell colored head. Very attractive lacing. Nice smooth aroma of smoked meats, sweet malts. Heavy smoke, big smoked malt aroma. It is not for he weak. Rich malt flavor, nice smoke on the sides of the palate. It is like drinking sweetened bacon. Bonerific. Medium bodied. Finishes with some more smoke and a balancing hop character. Prost. armando629 (995), Budapest, Hungary
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Wow, what a beer! Deep colored appearance, fine and stable lacing tan head. Yes, it has a barbeque aroma with a sweet malt character, some liqueric ham perfume. The taste is complex too, around a liquid smoked ham or bacon with sweet malt and roasted malt. In the finish i can feel the touch of the wooden cask. It is very exciting beer! I hope the tradition of the smoked beers will never die! mikalooch (167), , New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Pours adeep brown with nice tan, foamy head. Nose is barbeque smoke with a touch of molasses and malt underneath. Tastes like Texas barbeque in liquid form, roasted malt, and possibly some brown sugar. Medium carbonation, just about right. Very good brew, is not going to be for everyone but definitely worth a try. nickd717 (1374), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2008 This one is different. Smoky as hell, like eating a smoked ham sandwich...in liquid form. Medium bodied with significant carbonation. They say you love it or you hate it, but I am in the "it is decent" camp.
