This was something I have been looking forward to for a while. It would be a nice ltmus test of whether the other Aecht Schlenkerla beers are worth buying. Now I will be working them into the rotation as I have time (or need a change of pace). Everyone should try a smoked beer every once in a while.

Aroma / Appearance - Maroonish red with a fizzy eggshell head the liquid is graceful as it fills the glass. Rich smoked ham melds with malt. This is about as perfect as you can get although some more depth would not hurt.

Flavor / Palate - Less smoky than the nose indicated this was a good change of pace and refreshed a weary palate. Wheat, malt, and dark chocolate create textures on the tongue that support the smokiness. I would not age this very long; it needs to be consumed as fresh as possible for the best experience.

0.5 l bottle from Alko. Hazy chestnut brown color with big fluffy head. Firm tarry and leathery smoke aroma with more restrained clove, pepper and vanilla. Tarry and smoky flavor with pepper, clove, vanilla and nuts. Full bodied yet dryish. Pleasant smooth palate. Rich pleasant aroma and flavor, very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a dark brune body with an off white head. Smoked malt, smoked salmon, hints of bacon and some fruit esters breath through the smoke. Smoky bananas and a hint of wheat. A nice Rauchbier.

Another masterpiece...this isn’t quite as robust as the marzen, but still packs a fantastic smokey punch. If the marzen is hickory-smoked bacon, this is applewood-smoked bacon, delicious.

Pours dark brown with medium head. The smoke aroma is very faint and the beer looks and smells like a dunkelweizen. On the flavor the smoke and tar are quite prominent, but don’t cover all the wheatness. Very enjoyable.

Pre-Cheesesteak Tour ’09 breakfast beer.... Pours a hazy brown with a white head, not at all viscous, looks thin... Heavily smoked meats dominate the aroma.... Flavor follows with notes of clove and a slight touch of banana coming through... medium thin body/mouthfeel... Smoked bacon... Good breakfast beer in the right context...
