Quack-Duck (1900), Bodensee, Germany Jul 29, 2007 bottle. Dark colour, persistent head, smoky nose. Not as smoky as the Märzen and Urbock, but still there is a smoky bacground. Otherwise malty and quite yeasty. Very pleasant!
DrDavid (332), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 3, 2008 (Bottle). Smokey aroma. Cloudy copper color, large off-white head. Flavor is lightly smokey, along with banana. Mouthfeel a little too light. Interesting, but not in same league as their Maerzen. austone (440), Turku; Pori, Finland Sep 26, 2008 Bottle @ EBF, room temperature.. Murky, reddish brown, coarse pale head. Smoky aroma, dry tar. Flavor is smoke, yeast and sourish wheat. Almost medium bodied, average carbonation. Smoke didn’t fit in as neatly as I’d hoped. Beerlando (1341), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 25, 2008 The body is a dark, lightly hazy, caramel brown color with a well retained, foamy, off-white head. Some nice, thick bands of lacing circle the glass, with random, jagged flares protruding from the foamy ring. The aroma is straightforward and simple, caramel malts, hints of indiscernible fruit, and a moderate dose of smoke all showing. Flavors are similarly subdued and easy going. There are no complexities buried within the smoked caramel malt and dry wheat, it simply is what it is. The body is relatively light, with moderate carbonation and an overall dry feel. This is a bit underwhelming. I was expecting much more. Boring for a smoked brew. Grovlam (3198), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 24, 2008 [EBF @ Copenhagen, September 2008] Average creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Hazy amber color. Nice smoke and wheat notes in a smoothe combination. Over the palate came mild banana, yeast, fruit and maybe a hint of citrus. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor. Sweet Smokey wheat finish. FrankJohansen (2807), Sabro, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 Bottle. Hazydark amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma and taste of wheat, yeast and smoke. Nice smoked.
