Wonderful smoky aroma from the rauch malt. Flavor is dominated by the taste of smoke despite it’s being a bit more subtle than the Urbock. Also a slightly sweet flavor. I seem to have detected a slight citrus flavor too. All in all an excellent beer.

If the marzen is hickory-smoked bacon, this is applewood-smoked bacon, delicious. Toxygen (270), Sanford, Florida, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Pours dark brown with medium head. The smoke aroma is very faint and the beer looks and smells like a dunkelweizen. On the flavor the smoke and tar are quite prominent, but don’t cover all the wheatness. Very enjoyable. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear light brown color with a small transparent head that dissipates to nothing. Nose is lightly salty and peaty with a dryness. Nose is not over powering which I like a lot. Palate is medium and smooth with a nice dryness. Flavor is light dry malt notes with a hint of salt and some light toasty notes.
