| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 20, 2008 Pours dark, translucent brown/red. Stays on the glass well. I’m having trouble smelling much. Reminds me of a pilsner if anything, but I can’t really catch a scent. The taste is confusing. Some yeast, distasteful bitterness, sweaty malt flavour and something else. I didn’t like this. Perhaps my bottle or tastebuds are faulty. Rciesla (3750), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 18, 2008 Bottle. Has a nice dark amber color, very nice, with a good white head. Aroma is a bit fuity. Taste is a strong malty, with a bit of fruit. Very nice. Perm (151), Tryon, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Appearance: A cloudy bronze-brown with a thin lacy antique-white head.
Nose: Not as overwhelming as it could be. Fruity esters, white pepper, brown sugar, raisins.
Taste: Raisins, caramel, cooked apples, pear.
Palate: Very spritzy, nice and dry.
Overall: I love this style of beer -- this is not my favorite exemplar of the style, but at $5/bottle it’s hard to argue! As a beer, it’s wonderful. As a dubbel, it’s average.
I’d be tempted to try cellaring this one.
My favorite part, actually, is the bottom-of-the-bottle yeasty "dregs" -- brings out a nice nutty quality, and more pronounced cooked apples. Very good with sweet seafood-in-cream-sauce pasta.
