Heating up the taste adds a bit more sweetness, but overall it’s a weirdly bitter belgian dubbel. The sweetness you expect in the aftertaste is not present, instead a harshness of alcohol prevails (not too much though) stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2006 Pours amber with a red hue and a decent sized creamy beige head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, belgian spices, alcohol, and yeast. Flavor is smooth, prunes, yeasty, citrus, spiced, with a hoppy bitter finish. Good brew. ryananderson (74), Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2006 Dark gold in colour. Flavour is of bread and plum. Aroma has average hoppiness and some flower notes. Body is too light. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 3, 2006 Updated: Mar 4, 2006Brownish-red, alluring color. Silky beige head. Had a 750ml bottle last week and was floored at how good it was. This one seems to be a little harsher. Might be better to let it mellow out for a few months. Like the last reviewer said this is kinda similar to Chimay red, which is a plus. Though Chimay is superior to this. Affligem abbey dubbel has some plum, raisin notes. Bitter spicy finish. This bottle seems a little offensive. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2006 750 bottle. Pours copper beer with a big orange head that drops away after a short while. Aroma is very pleasant fruity, musty yeast. Flavor is also a musty yeasty affair with malts, spices, and fruits, mostly prune. Typical dubbel flavors. This is strongly reminiscent of Chimay, which I don’t like. Thankfully, this is less offensive than the Chimay. Thin at times, and astringent at first, but smoothes out a bit as you finish the glass. The alcohol is well concealed but noticeable and good for a nice buzz at 7% Not spectacular but nice. Not a bad buy at $4.99 from Broudy’s, Jacksonville FL. MoritzF (5080), Bochum, Germany
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 20, 2006 (bottle) Reddish amber colour with a fluffy beige foam, slowly lacing. Dusty and dry toasted malts aroma with caramel, dried fruits and a herbal and coriander spicy touch. Light sweet initial maltininess with caramel and chocolate notes; medium bodied, lively carbonated; dry malty and spicy finish. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Pours copper with the biggest head I’ve ever seen. It ain’t goin away any time soon, either. Yeasty and herbal aroma, with fruitiness coming in on the second whiff. An interesting fruitiness, too, like pear, grape, and honeydew. Heather’s in there, as well. Flavor falls far short--sweet (fruit, light candi sugar) and somewhat musty, with a dry, slightly bitter finish. Thin mouthfeel. hughie (3086), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2006 Slightly hazy dark amber with a full, lasting off-white head. Musty yeast in the aroma, followed by a sweet melon-lavender fruitiness. The flavour was masked at first by prickly carbonation, but the orange-peel and sweet malt emerged, followed by a bitter aftertaste.
