Dark ruby color, good tanned creamy head, lace. Fruity, spicey licorice aroma with oaky notes. Medium-bodied, smooth . Spicey, dry, slightly alcoholic. Bitterish aftertaste. Reasonable balanced but aroma promises more than flavor gives. Gachupines (293), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2005 Nice dark brown appearance with a thick lingering head. Taste is mild with a strong malt backbone and a somewhat spicy flavor. Not one of the best, but a solid example of the style. mcscottmc (6), USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2005 Compared to other Belgian Abbey ales, this one is nothing to get excited about. A friend told me that this is being discontinued on my area (Atlanta, GA), so I got a good deal on it. Definitely better than the average beer, but if you are going to drink Belgian ale, get the really good stuff. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden

hm, it smells of dark bread "kavring" (pumpernickel-like).
It smells refreshing yet aged.
No huge body here, but nice flavours of bread and spices. High carbonation. piscator34 (1131), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Dark brown in colour. Very aromatic, with all of the spicy, yeasty, bubblegum, fig, and dark fruit (perhaps plum and raisin) aromas that you’d expect from this style. The flavors were a bit of a letdown. The initial malt presence was good and there was some nice dried fruit notes in there too, but the body was quite thin and there was a slightly astringent bitter finish. Was the carbonation supposed to be this high? Thanks to radiomgb for the sample. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 5, 2005 Pleasant fruity, bready aromas initially waft up from this reddish-brown offering. Sweet malts and hints of yeast and are there and then hints of spice too. Not a very powerful finish - somewhat chewy couthfell just fades away slightly sweetly. screwball (796), Motala, Sweden
