Oct 10, 2004 Nice hazy amber colour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of malt and cherries. Medium-bodied; Malty flavour with nuts and cherries with a good caramel flavour. Overall, nice to try! I sampled this beer at Smokeless Joe’s after our May RB Party on 15-May-2004 in Toronto, Ontario.

Nose is cherries with chocolate, raisins and molasses.
Dark fruits first followed by clove, buttered-toffee and a hop spicyness. The yeast strain is very clean.
This is a very simple and very dull dubbel. It isn’t as full in the mouth and lacks the complexity and flavor of most beers of the style.

Oct 1, 2004 A muddy brown color, faint off-white head. Aroma: seriously raisiny! Toss in some molasses, dark rum, sour cherries, maybe even dates? Sizzling hops on the palate,warm mouthfeel from the malt, and the yeasty, raisiny flavor is rich, full, delicious. More sour notes abide in the middle, and a candyish feeling runs through the finish.
A good dubbel, a fine enough drink, but far from great.

Sep 27, 2004 Updated: Nov 14, 2004Tasted in Toronto. Obtained from LCBO. Tasted in Affligem chalice Appearance is deep brown with a thin tan coloured head lacing the glass. Aroma is sweet, with hints of candied sugar and malt. Taste is very unbalanced. Tastes of wet cardboard and sickly sweetness with a ’tinny’ ending. I have another bottle to try, and unless this was just a bad sample, it was definitely not to my liking.

Sep 24, 2004 I did a side by side of two bottles I’d been aging: 2001, 2002
2001-pured deep brown with thin tan head...smelled tart like grapes, cocoa, astringent..tasted rich with a velvety mouthfeel...caramel, quite sweet with mild alcohol...finish quick and dry...this is the one I’m going to rate for numbers...
2002-poured lighter brown than 01, HUGE floaties and LOTS of them...sort of surprised me b/c the 01 had no floaties...smelled much more overpowering than the 01...caramel, nuts, very earthy...much more effervescent than 01...fizzy...sweet finish with sugar...

Sep 21, 2004 A sharp and sweet drink from affligem. Ranks better than the blonde. The usual sweet fruit and caramels are here with a sharp aftertaste. Impressive.

Sep 21, 2004 Pours hazy red with a firm tan head. Cherry yeast aroma. Woody, musty, and earth. Cherry, apple, rasin. Some brown sugar. Some medicine (Cherry cough syrup). Sweet/sour finish. Good but not outstanding.
