The beer after its extrication from the 750ml bottle pours a slightly beclouded burnt umber color with a modest semi-creamy light tan head that upon its demise leaves a thick and clingy blanket of lace upon the glass. Nose is plum like with nice sweet malt back round, crisp and fresh to the senses; start is somewhat sweet with a nice malt presence and the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is prickly in its acidity and the hops spicy in their bite; the 9 percent ABV leaves a nice warm feeling in the tummy, a quite nice beer. This one I share with the “Veterans, past present and future”, and especially to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Poured from bomber, sixth beer in tasting series. Appearance is predictably dark, a murky mud-brown. Aroma of cocoa powder, banana, brown sugar, and malt. Flavor is primarily sweet, asserting notes of dark fruit, butterscotch, soil, caramel and chocolate. Palate is medium in thickness, but flavor is remains rich. Notably, the mid-palate is surprisingly one-sidedly sweet. Overall, this was a pleasant surprise, and a nice way to finish the night.

Beautiful chestnut pour with lasting, pillowy head. NIce lighly toasted carmel aromas, coupled with dusty berry notes and musty dried fruit scents make for layered, and intriguing olfactory experience. Decent mouthfeel on this lightly chewy brew, with a berry-fruit flavor working with a vanilla infused yeasted touch. An almost brandy-like twanging aftertaste and a vanila, cloed spice give this brew a complex drinkability which warms the throat. Woah there nice beer guy.

Bottle. In summertime. Beautiful Reddish-Brown color; strong and fruity. Very smooth flavor, as you’d expect from an abbey ale. Some hints of spice and fruit like maybe, orange and plum. Not overly christmasy which is very good, because some beers go overboard on Christmas flavors but this one gets it just right.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured hazy brown color with a large fizzy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma was as complex modetate spicy sweet and yeast. Medium body with a smooth texture. Heavy dark fruit sweet flavor with a heavy bittersweet finish with medium alcohol bite. Good brew.
