Good carbonation that keeps a thin bit of foam on the surface. Raisins, spices, sugary malts and some molasses. Dark mahagony red in color. Dry, yeasty and spicy flavor with some more malts and raisins. Nice and typical belgian strong ale flavor. Pretty clean finish with a bit of lingering spice. A very good belgian. tubehead (11), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Pours with tight lacing with dissapates quickly. Nice honey nose with robust malt backbone. I really enjoyed the Belgian "banana" notes with caramel, rose, and belgian candy sugar. An excellent example of the traditional Belgian holiday beer. tennessejed420 (96), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2009 750, corked and baled. Pours a cloudy, toffeeish medium amber with a fairly dense, surging tan head. Head shows tight bubbles but falls away fairly quickly. We uncorked two year-old 2008 bottles and both poured absolutely shot through with protein debris. Mild nose of tangy spice, not too dark or peppery. Bit of alcohol present in the aromatics but just a twinge of heat to it, not unpleasant or isopopyl-y. Creamy medium body. Shortbread, light yeasty spice, some caramel and toffee, dates and figs. Pleasant, drinkable, balanced, restrained, hides the alcohol well, and puts you in mind of the holidays. Good stuff. larryLSB (162), La Selva Beach, California, USA
