750ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany with a thick creamy head. Great lacing and retention. Aroma is prunes and caramel, with a nice spice. Flavor is burnt toffee, earthiness, allspice, apple, and ginger. Nice complexity and mouthfeel. Earthy and tasty, one of the better Affligems.

Draught at the Red. dark brown with a medium sized beige head. Brown sugar and spiced, yeasty aroma. The flavor has some toffee and brown sugar, with a bit of raisin and subtle yeast spice. The mouthfeel is just a tad on the thin and sharp side. Nice, simple, a bit lacking though.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Malty, just a bit sharp aroma. Malty, caramelly, alcoholic flavor with hints of cinnamon. Lacks balance, because of the strong alcoholic character. The tap version shows more balance. Cinnamon, butter and a hint of chocolate in the aroma. Dark chocolate and roast in the flavor, with cinnamon. Caramel and raspberry. Hint of diacetyl (7 3 6 2 13 = 3.1)

Draught. Nice dee dark brown reddish colour with a medium beige head. Sweet dark fruity and toasty malty aroma with toasty caramel and some spice. Good filling mouthfeel. The flavour has a good toasted maltiness with caramel, spices and some dark fruits. Good malty mildly spiced and bitter finish.

Bottle. Moderate malt notes of cookie, roasted and milk chocolate, orange for the hops, light leather for the yeast, with hints of raisin, red wine, alcohol and an indiscernible spice. Head is average sized, fizzy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy dark copper. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, then finishes lightly sweet and bitter. Palate is medium, watery but a little sticky and has a fizzy carbonation. A beer well suited for the holidays, rich, deep and fruity.

On tap @ La Trappe. Pours a ruby red color with a nice, off white head. Very sweet, slightly alcoholic nose, with a touch of spices/funk?? Light, sweet body, quite sticky. Medium spice on the end, fig, cinnamon. A standard xmas brew.
