| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 17, 2004 Bottle. Spicy, slightly farty radish aroma. Malty, spicy, peppery flavour. Aftertaste leaves a strange rubbery feeling in my mouth, but not a big problem. Colour is dark brown. The head is light brown and small, but firm. Mouthfeel is nice, the beer swells a little when going down. Oakes (8115), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 11, 2003 Golden amber colour. Phenolic, peachy aroma. Similar palate with added toasty malts. Complex, and worth re-visiting so I can enjoy a whole bottle. bierkoning (6089), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 24, 2004 Affligem Christmas, says the label, but it must be the same beer. Malty, sugary aroma and flavor with milk chocolate and caramel. Sweet and just a bit alcoholic with hints of cardemon. Some bitterness and coffee in the aftertaste.
Thin for the high ABV. JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2005 Pretty aged sample Dark brown beer with red highlights, still carbonation to faint rim of foam. Very nutty aroma, resembling some drink as old Madeira or aged Armenian brandy. Toffee, grapes in chocolate, vinous, incense. Pure dark brandy taste, "watered" down with some sweet wine, liqueurish. Retronasal hints of coffee and slightly burnt caramel. Each new sip again a vinous assault with caramel and raisins. Only negative effect of the aging is the thinning out, watering of the texture, which still leaves for an oily, slick MF. Medium bodied at least. WOW. I’m impressed De Smedts’ beers can age that well. This is rather exceptional.
