Sample at GABF 2007. Cloudy golden color with a frothy white head that diminishes rapidly when swirled. Mild clove banana ester, perhaps a suggestion of bubble gum. Flavor was somewhat lemony with a small dollop of balancing sweetness. A bit thin in body to be remarkable.

Tap. Cherry-berry malt and light hops aroma. Golden yellow color with moderate head. Tart cherry malt flavor with a nice flowery hops flavor. More fresh fruit flavor - nice flavor and palate - not too strong. A nice, enjoyable beer.

GABF 2003: Yellow with a large white head. Light spices in the nose, watery mouthfeel, very sudden ending without much life.

This isn't the pleasant surprise that the porter is, but it's not bad either. Something about the flavor makes me think that this is a wheat-based recipe. They also obviously used a belgian yeast given the types of ester and phenols I'm picking up in the flavor, but I'm guessing it was fermented fairly cold since the yeast flavors are very muted. It comes off as timid, like they were afraid to test their patrons with the flavors of a true Belgian. I still enjoyed it, though. Slight bubblegummy esters with a little apricot or peach. The phenols reminded me of a belgian witbier.
