Commercial Description:
Airdale Horizon, is a style of wheat beer (weissbier). It is made with a typical ratio of 40:60, or even higher, wheat to barley malt. This beer is light, bright, and zippy on the palate with an often dry and tart edge, coupled with some hop spiciness. Little hop bitterness permeates the beer and it possesses a moderate level of alcohol. The “Hefe” prefix means “with yeast”, hence the beers unfiltered and cloudy appearance. Often served with a lemon wedge (popularized by Americans), to either cut the wheat or yeast edge, which many find to be a flavorful snap.

On tap. Hazy gold pour. SPicy, yeasty, boringness. Bitter aftertaste. And they took Stone IPA off tap at the SD downtown Courtyard for this??

On tap at The Local in SD. This beer has an incredible amount of yeast. It is nearly white as the keg was just changed and I got an early mixed up pour. This has a fantastic sulfur aroma. Wounderful wheat/apples/pears. The tartness is mild for this much yeast and it has just the right splash of fizziness. This is a good hefe. It seems very German without the doughiness. Nice.

On tap at Porters Pub, UCSD. Pours a cloudy light amber with a small white head. Aroma is a bit spicy, with wheat and a lot of citrus. Taste of wheat, citrus, hope, a hint of spice, and a lot of yeast. Lingering sharp yeast taste. Nice.

On tap. I have happened on to trying a few of their beers now. Color was a dull gold with an off white head. Aroma of wet wheat, spice, lemon and spice. Flavor was of wet grain/wheat, and some spice. Not bursting with the flavor, but it was solid.

Tap @ O’Briens. Pours cloudy orange-yellow with a chunky white head. Zesty wheat and lemon peel aroma with grass. Sharp wheaty taste, a bit of clove and lemon, no banana. A true American wheat that is very well done.

Sampled at GABF. A - Electric apricot -- almost neon orange in color -- full of sediment -- simply gorgeous! S - Citrus & freshly baked french bread T - Clove, tangerine, bread dough, and spicy citrus backend M - Very full, nice effervescence, love the sediment! D - Surprisingly refreshing for something looking so thick. Probably my favorite Hefe right now. I’m tiring of the banana/clove thing, so it’s great to find something so flavorful without being cloying.
