JPDIPSO (4232), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Mar 19, 2003 Cooper color with a light cream colored head. Malt with mild smoke and acidic aroma. A smooth feel with a dark roasted wheat flavor. Yes, I would say watery. A brew to refresh and satisfy on a hot summer day.
GarrettB (410), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 23, 2008 I love, in theory, the Dunkleweizen. All the banana and clove notes of the weizen with the added touch and flavor layer of chocolate malts? It’s dessert in a bottle! But once again Aktienbrauerei’s version of the beer disappointing. Not crushingly disappointing. Just a relaxed, defeated sigh kind of disappointed. The dark red lacquer color of the beer partially disguises a drink with tons of gaseuous traffic, lending it a busy clarity in a dim shade of red. A creamy aroma slowly writhes from the glass, gracefully exuding a light, mellow wood flavor, difficult to grasp in its subtlety. The flavor is more palpable; cold and crisp, it copies the wood flavor and adds a chocolate tribute and a savory side, mixed like chicken adobada. These flavors give the Aktienbrauerei a dry and warm quality, and relative to other darker lagers, seems rather flavorless. This is more restrained than I had hoped, though gives me hope that other Dunklesweizens might be more what I’m looking for. pivnizub (3806), Porúří, Germany Aug 20, 2008 Bottle: Hazy, chestnut-amber coloured, small foamy layer, quickly diminishing; sourish-fruity nose with a touch of gherkins; light sweetish-sourish flavour, quite light bodied; malty-yeasty, almost watery finish. It was hard..... thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 27, 2008 This bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized off white colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a transparent typically carbonated golden brown colored body and a thick lacing. The aroma was very mild with brown malt dough and hop notes. The mouth feel was mildly tingly and thick. Too thick for a dunk el. The flavor contained notes of mild brown malts and hops. Was not a very good brew. urbnhautebourg (933), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Jun 24, 2008 Labels this cool (not pictured) should signal a wonderful beer. Not so here. Very acidic and rather sour. I didn’t even finish it. Sad. IrishBoy (2127), Bakersfield, California, USA Jun 13, 2008 .5 L bottle from Hollingshead Deli; Nose is light spices, wheaty graininess, and a light molasses note; amber with a medium beige head; flavor is molasses with a tart note. Not very good for a dunkelweissen.
