Commercial Description:
Built with lots of chocolate malt and black strap molasses to give this beer backbone. A hint of juniper blends nicely with the chocolate to become a new and unique flavor you can only find at the Alameda Brewhouse. The Porter stands up to the Artichoke, Spinach and Herb Dip as well as the Brewhouse Nachos.

Black with clingy tan head. Coffee aroma. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavors of coffee and mild chocolate. Juniper? Nice smooth toast malt. Finishes coffee bitter.

On tap at the brewery. Colour... nearly black with no head. Nose... cola, mint, hops and lightly roasted malt. Palate... moderately frothy, coffee, bitter around the edges, slightly musty and tangy.

Tap @ their brewhouse... Poured black with a thin, light brown head. Toasted, cocoa cereal grains on the nose. Thick, foamy, well carbonated palate. Smoked malts, creamy caramel sweetness, and a earthy, soy quality -- maybe somehow from the juniper. A dark coffee and hop bitterness in the finish.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with some hints of coffee and hops in the aftertaste.

Not sure if this is the place for this rating. I think they’ve taken the juniper out. Poured black with thin fast dissipating beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and malt. More chocolate in the flavour, with coffee and caramel notes. Lingering flinish, coffee and hop. A very worthy porter

I had this beer in one of its early forms when I visited Portland. When I ordered it and the waitress asked me if I wanted it "regular or from the nitrous tap" I thought to myself, "I am coming back to this place." When I tasted it, I wanted to cry. I know the current version isn’t exactly the same, but I just don’t care. I do not go to Portland without eating at the Alameda Brewhouse. I even bought a T-shirt last time I was there (because I’m nerdy like that) and was wearing it downtown in Seattle a couple weeks later. A guy on the street says to me, "you from Portland?" I say no. "Good beer though, isn’t it?" he says. Ahhhh, the power of beer.

On tap at the brewery. Not sure if the version I had was the Juniper one, I didn’t pick that up in the flavor. This was the best beer I had at the brewery, nice roasty porter, smooth chocolate flavor up front, dry lingering bitter chocolate finish.
