Drnk_McDermott (1562), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Oct 31, 2007 12 oz. draft. They like to push this when they sense you’re a beer lover, and I can see why. This has a color between pils gold and copper. Smell shows caramel cremes and Bit-o-Honey. Now I’ve been sucking cough drops all day, so I may be tasting this as sweeter than it really is. But there are heavy malts approaching syrup quality. Alcohol is smooth and warming on a cool afternoon. Good sippin’ beer.
wxman (458), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA May 10, 2008 On tap at Heritage Brew Fest 2008. Pours a light amber in color with a a smooth thin but lingering white head. A rich malty dopple but a little on the thin/sweet side. Very good and refreshing w/o much alcohol presence in spite of the 8.1 ABV and smoothly malty. Very deceiving; don’t drink too many unless you’re ready. Dogbrick (2260), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 29, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Alandale’s version of the style is a mostly clear dark orange/copper color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Short strings of lacing. Malty nose with some alcohol and dark fruit in the background. Medium and syrupy body with a strong malt profile. Notes of caramel and grain flavors are present as well. Light hops saves it from becoming cloying. The finish is malty and sweet, leaving a grainy malt aftertaste. Above average overall. Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Jul 18, 2007 Draft 12 oz’er at the brewpub. Deep amber color with a sticky tan head. Not much to the aroma, but this has a gargantuan malty powerhouse of a flavor. Rich and sugary, maybe a bit too much for a hot July day. Quite good. (#3029, 7/17/2007) kwoeltje (1220), Manchester, Missouri, USA Mar 30, 2007 (draught at the brewpub) medium-dark amber with moderate head, nice lace. Mild malt aroma. Flavor is sweet malt, body is reasonably thick; noticeable hops in the finish, metallic aftertaste.
