DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Oct 14, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) Not a bad beer by any means, but not very exciting either. With little in the way of hops here, the beer is easily tipped toward the malty end of the scale. That maltiness is caramely and sweet, and while sweet is often a good thing to me, with this beer, the sweetness is quite sugary and cheap-tasting. The beer also has a modest floral character that’s not doing much for me either. The nose is also caramely, very sugary and sweet. Medium bodied and nicely carbonated, but a bit cloying and tiring on the palate. The crystal clear, dark amber color is very rich-looking. The small, off-white head dissipates fairly quickly and leaves no lacing. Alaskan makes some great beer, but this is definitely not one of them. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Oct 7, 2005 No date on the bottle, at least as I can tell. Poured amber with a fizzy quickly fading head. Nose was sour-malt. Taste was the same. While not a "great" brew, very easy to drink. Seems to be right in the style range. Thanks for the trade. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 6, 2005 Updated: May 12, 2006From the bottle
Pours a deep amber. A pleasent session beer, well balanced between rounded malts and enough hops to keep things interesting, though sweeter than I might have expected or preferred. JohnnyFlake (53), Henderson, Nevada, USA Oct 2, 2005 22oz Bomber - Color is a dark amber/ copper, with a nice creamy head that hangs on for awhile. The aroma is mostly that of malt and light hops. Like the aroma, the taste is mostly that of sweet malts, with a nice mild hoppy bitterness. Mouth feel is kind of fizzy and full, a bit more carbonation than I like. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and a bit dry. This is another decent amber ale. It’s not a great beer but it’s very nice and very drinkable. BruinBeer (6), Los Angeles, California, USA does not count Sep 9, 2005 Updated: Feb 11, 2006This is a good beer! It’s not a coveted microbrew but it certainly holds its own. It has just the right amount of sweetness with a slightly bitter finish. I’ve just had one bottle but I feel like I could drink the other five without any regret. Good tasting, refreshing, and surprisingly easy on the palate. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA Sep 8, 2005 Bomber. Very refreshing and easy drinking. Pours deep amber with a quick head. Aroma is a little light with toffee, caramel, cherry and banana. The first sip was very unexpected. I thought I’d get something bland and uninspired, but instead, it was heavy with banana, some spices and nuttiness. The spices mingled on my tongue to produce a nice tingle. It may be a bit metallic, but that subsided quickly. It finishes smooth and refreshing. One of the better alts I’ve had. Sam10 (36), Olympia, Washington, USA Sep 8, 2005 Easy drinking beer. Good for Bar-B-Q guests will enjoy it and won’t break your bank to provide. Nice amber color with a good size head on it. Sweet tasting fruity with hints of wheat and malt. Pretty good for the price. Cable (286), SE, Oklahoma, USA Sep 7, 2005 Sampled from bottle. This alt pours clear, dark copper with a collared light-tan head. Aroma is sweet, earthy with notes of dark fruit. Slightly bitter with assertive fruits and nutty, roasted maltiness. Medium-bodied, moderately carbonated and smooth. Finished dry. I’d drink it again if it were local, but not quite good enough to justify the trip from Alaska to Oklahoma.
