A perfect session beer, minus the fact that it is brewed clear up in Alaska and we Midwesterners have no local distributors of it! Caramel and hoppy aroma, matched the taste. Balanced and refreshing. I’m still pissed at my friends for "accidentally" drinking my Alaskan Xmas beer last year! BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 4, 2002 Malt emphasis on the nose is almost raw like popping the can on a beer kit, while I find the sweetness on the palate a little too syrupy. I really don’t get the hop bitterness from the description more of a dry grainy toasiness that you get from a Marzen. Drinkable but too sweet for my taste. Would probably work well with Alaskan food. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2006 Very, VERY sweet...with a cloying candi sugar note. Some very light herbal hopping, but pretty subtle. Light notes of nuts and caramel. OK, I guess. CharlesDarwin (1866), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2007 12 Oz Pour. A gentle breeze of salty caramel wafts forth, with a touch of banana and not much else. Pouring a clear ruddied orange, the beer springs forth a rocky wheat-colored rim. Flavor touches the tongue with a unique palate and a bit of dark malt flavor. There almost seems to be some carob, or smoked wheat, or burnt toffee. Sugars seemed really subdued, glassy and glazed over. Inaccessible. Caramels ooze forth a bit, but restrain themselves. Plastic. A bubble of ester gum and yeast byproducts captures the backend, leaving an almost rotten hop character behind. Light bitterness over stale chocolate don’t make it a particularly suave drinker. Banana heat warms the middles and fades into the glassine sugar-water. Not particularly exciting. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA

Deep Red.
Very pleasant mulched apple aroma covering grapes, toasted grain and sweet malts.
This is a very good Alt. The fruitiness comes abound first. It’s all over the palate and oh so pleasant. Caramel and sweet malts next. The finish makes you know it’s an Alt beer. It’s crisp, clean, dry and nutty. The hops are minimal but balance this beer well.
I’m very surprised with this offering. Nice stuff. thegreenrooster (1848), St.louis, Missouri, USA

Aroma is all things caramel malts. Not much else comes through. Flavor is again nice deep caramel malts and some light flowery hops follow up after the swallow. A good example of the style.
