Amber body with a one finger off white head. Nice dry spicy nose. Smells like apples and nuts. Notes of spice, banana, bubblegum, malt, and light cherry come through. Great clean finish. This is an excellent beer for any occasion. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2009 I can’t believe I haven’t rated this beer. The first time I had this one was sitting at SeaTac after a trip back from Okinawa to see my girlfriend (now wife). This was when the world of beer changed for me. Pour is the same rusty Texas orange with a fizzy white head. He nose is loaded with Munich malt with a bit of sticky Snickerdoodle. There’s a certain citrus hop character in the aroma as well. The flavor is full of dry biscuity malts with a bit of a dark honey sweetness. Pretty big body and it a bit oily. Its a little sweet in the finish. Still, this beer was my first. sneagrams3 (1756), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Nor does it have extremely high gravity or a vintage dating, I have been looking forward to trying this beer for some time now. Honey amber hued. Tight ring of off-white head. Red fruity notes wrapped up in a caramel bready aroma. Medium bodied with wonderfully sweet smooth malts. Mild bitterness and a moderately long tingling finish. Really nice citrus and berry acidity. Grapefruity undertones in the finish. Wonderful opportunity to try this beer! Great milestone! DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Bottle. Clear dark amber body, not much head. You know those worthless orange/black taffy-peanut butter candies they give out on halloween? This smells like those alongside crystal malt. Great malt flavor - clean clear sweet caramel and toasted malt finishing with a hint of minerals and grassy hops. Medium body with a ticklish carbonation. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 8, 2004 Roasted malt aroma with faint hops notes. Hazy reddish amber in color with particalia. Small, off-white ehad. Caramel malt flavor with solid alcohol presence. Highly carbonated. Some hops come through at mid bottle. Not ad. Not overly special, but no flaws and interesting. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

Rerate 2/24/08: Draft: Pours golden with a large white head. Nose is malty and earthy, light florals and bits of toffee. Flavor is earthy and malty. Roasty tones and nuttiness. Still one of my go-to brews when the pickins are slim.
