Commercial Description:
Richly malty and long on the palate, with just enough hop backing to make this beautiful amber colored "alt" style beer notably well-balanced.

Small amount of quick to disappear head. Beautiful amber coloring. You can taste the caramel. The malts are almost too much. Easy drinking, yet couldn’t have too many and certainly couldn’t drink quickly.

On tap at the Skidmore Fountain open-air market in Portland, 7 August 2004. Wouldn’t have guessed it was an altbier, but that makes sense. The body was quite malty with layers of caramel and touches of toast, but grassy, spicy (almost peppery) hops provided a nice complement to the malts. Good stuff, even though it was served out of a plastic cup for $5.

Nice clean amber/orange/red color with light white head. Malt profile prominent, nice body. Slight cloying finish. A good beer but was surprised by the off finish.

Nutmeg and caramel nose. Deep red-copper, minimal head. Full malt sweetness, slow subtle bitterness. Smooth carbonation, finishes fairly clean. Very drinkable and enjoyable beer.

in a trade withThis bottled brew poured a small sized head of fine to medium sized of unnoted length white colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body contained soft carbonation, was transparent and caramel brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of sweet malty bready . Its mouth feel is initially tingly with a palate and a very mild bock aftertaste. Its flavor contained sweet malt mild cherry notes. Strange blackdonald

Pours clear amber with a medium beige head, fine lasting lacing. Smells of caramel, bubblegum, banana and biscuit. Medium-thin body, smooth, mildly dry and crisp. Flavors of caramel, biscuit, apple, banana, citrus, with a slight mineral character. A light citrus and grass finish. Very drinkable.

Really pretty beer. Copper like a new penny. Smells malty/caramel - caramel really comes through the taste, quite sweet but not in the sense of candy, malt is forefront, pretty complex, really - think i taste some hazelnut or even oatmeal. Slightly bitter finish. Really a nice beer. I’ll admit to a slight bias due to the ’sense of place’ component - having comsumed dozens of these (only decent tap @ small town bar) on either end of a backcountry float I do in AK every year or two.
