ross (1531), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Mar 16, 2006 I am not too familiar with altbiers, this is my first - but to me this tasted like nothing more than a red, lighter scotch ale. Pretty malty, more easy to drink though, not bad all in all. I’d drink it again.
Nik925 (136), California, USA Sep 2, 2008 Low head and smell but great mouthfeel and color. The malt is clearly the centerpiece and is quite good. A bit simple but still a solid brew. This seems like the easiest to find Alaskan brew and for good reason, yet it is a bit on the simple side. jcr (835), Jasper, Indiana, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottle. Small, off-white head that recedes. Medium amber body. The aroma contains toasted grain, dough. Very little hop aroma. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Some acidity. The finish remains sweet though the sweetness diminishes. The light bitterness contnues and there is a slight tartness that lingers. Medium body with a watery texture and lively carbonation. Comfortable enough with a subtle, but solid malt body. Beyond that, unimpressive. wcampbell (420), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 27, 2008 Not much going on with this beer. Pretty weak malt flavor without any hops at all. Highly carbonated. Toasty rye bread taste dominates. Lightly sweet, without a trace of bitterness. Watery finish. Gurst (318), Ann Arbor, Wisconsin, USA Aug 25, 2008 Very malty. Toast, toffee, and a little caramel. Some fruitiness in the end. Not a whole lot of hops taste, but some light citrus maybe toward the back. Good, but unexciting. achtungpv (121), Buda, Texas, USA Aug 25, 2008 Reddish brown color. A bit sweet on top, no bitterness, and soft (no crispness). Good beer for having just one but too sweet for me to drink more in one sitting.
